You’ve probably heard me talk about NLP approximately 847 times 😂 but what the hell actually IS it?
And more importantly… why am I so obsessed with it?
NLP — Neuro-Linguistic Programming — completely changed the way I understand human behaviour, beliefs, communication and our unconscious patterns.
Because instead of only asking:
“Why am I like this?”
NLP gets curious about:
“HOW am I doing this?”
How do you create anxiety before something has even happened?
How do you know when you’re confident?
How do you talk yourself out of doing the thing you KNOW you want to do?
And how can we interrupt an automatic strategy and create something more useful instead?
In this episode, I take you back to where NLP began, the people behind it and why its origins in modelling human excellence are one of the reasons I bloody love it.
We dive into:
- What Neuro-Linguistic Programming actually means
- Where NLP came from and how it was developed
- Why NLP focuses heavily on the structure of our experience, not just the story
- How your beliefs, language and internal “map” influence the way you experience life
- Why procrastination, people pleasing, shutting down and overthinking can be understood as learned strategies rather than fixed parts of your identity
- How NLP helps us identify the patterns running underneath our behaviour
- Why language like “I can’t”, “I always”, “I never” and “that’s just who I am” matters more than we realise
- How reframing can change the meaning we give an experience
- Why accessing resourceful states like confidence, courage and calm is different from simply talking about wanting them
- How values, beliefs, identity and unconscious patterns come into the deeper Master NLP work
- Why behavioural flexibility and having MORE choices is such a huge part of creating change
And most importantly, we bring all of this back to real life.
Because I don’t care how clever a modality sounds if nothing actually fucking changes.
Can you set the boundary?
Can you have the conversation?
Can you stop making rejection mean you’re unlovable?
Can you recognise the strategy underneath your procrastination?
Can you stop calling an automatic behaviour “just who I am” and start questioning whether you still want to keep running it?
That’s where this work gets powerful.
NLP isn’t about programming you to become somebody else.
It’s about recognising the programming that may already be running — and creating more choice around what happens next.
